Last year Charleroi had a turbulent year after the troubles in the committee. A whole new committee was in charge of the first show new edition and it looked like a new era was coming on. The changes of last year were very promising.
Unfortunately this year there was a problem with the catalogue. It looked like it had a complete new layout. The changes, however, were not in favor. It looked very confusing, with changing letter types, not well divided breed groups and chapters, no statistics, no breeds overview, etc. There was no proper list of the judges with the breeds they judged and the numbers of dogs they had. Really, I was a long time ago since I have seen such an untidy catalogue. In fact this was a surprise as the entry form looked very promising and inventive with on the cover a photo of the long legs of a nice young lady and a puppy looking up to her, an eye catcher indeed.
Fortunately the catalogue was not representative for the rest of the show that had no less than 1295 dogs, almost the same number as last year, notwithstanding the crisis. All these dogs were judged by 18 different judges. Besides the 7 Belgian judges and the 5 from France there was one Irish judge, one from the United Kingdom, two from Italy, one from Portugal and even one from Russia.
As I don’t have the results I can only tell you that the ResBIS went to the two years old male Saarloos Wolfhound “Gdansk de Louba-tar” owned and bred by Cornelia Keizer, a lady from Holland but who lives in France. She has bred generations of this breed and Gdansk is a real nice specimen. The “Louba-tar” dogs are usually very well behaving Wolfhounds, not as shy as most of them. Gdanks was entered in Open Class under juge Eymar Dauphin from France who also judged the group and made him winner of group 1. I was personally happy with his choice as these breeds are not common sight on a main ring podium and a good sound specimen, that is not shy, deserves the honor. Mrs. Liliane De Ridder who did the BIS judging must have agreed with me as she made him later Res.BIS.
Her choice for BIS was the English Pointer “Aurichalcum Lord Beckett of Castlepoint”. This dog was bred by Linda Westron in januari 2008 and the dog is now co-owned by her and Catherine Sellin and lives in the United Kingdom. Yes, a UK BIS! This dog was entered under Mr.Lui Oliveira from Portugal in Open Class and made BOG by Mr.M.Gatsby. Let us hope that we will see the name of this dog next year again in a better looking catalogue. Anyway, I think that the catalogue will not be able to spoil the good souvenir on the rest of the show. The atmosphere was good, trade stands plenty, and finally!!, the comment in the main ring sounded good thanks to a new sound equipment.
